The Statue of Unity is a magnificent monument dedicated to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, a great Indian statesman and freedom fighter. He served as India’s first Home Minister and was a close associate of Mahatma Gandhi during the non-violent struggle for independence. Sardar Patel is widely admired for his decisive leadership in uniting 562 princely states into one strong and united nation. Located in Gujarat, the statue stands proudly at a height of 182 metres, making it the tallest statue in the world. It is situated on a river island in the Narmada River, overlooking the Sardar Sarovar Dam near Kevadiya, about 100 kilometres southeast of Vadodara.
